Why design a CCD camera?
| Kodak KAF-0401-C1 | 768 x 512 x 9u No AB |
| Thomson TH-7863 (left) | 384 x 288 x 23u No AB |
| Texas Instruments TC-255 (right) | 324 x 242 x 10u AB gate |
The KAF sensor has quite a few pixels, and on shorter focal length work, this can be a real blessing. The TC-255 has about the same pixel size, but has an anti-blooming gate which blocks 30% of the light, and drains most of the rest off. The TH-7863 has huge pixels, and is a huge device, compared to the others. This helps with longer focal length work, by increasing square arcseconds per pixel, and therefore reducing the exposure times. Binning the KAF has the same effect, but lowers the pixel count to 256 x 170.
